San Diego, CA – The 101 Elite team traveled to Del Mar, CA and competed in the Adrenaline Lacrosse Challenge January 7-8. The Challenge features some of the top teams in California and is routinely noted as the most competitive and top recruiting tournament in January. 101 Elite finished the weekend 4-2, placing 3rd overall after losing in the semifinals to eventual champions San Diego United.
On Saturday the team opened the day with victories over Vegas Starz Elite and LA Heat 2017. In both games 101 Elite took control early and put up double digit goals while holding both teams to less than 6 goals. In the third game, the team lost to the Minnesota Loons to finish 2-1 on the day, but atop their group. Heading into Sunday they were the #5 seed in the playoffs.
Sunday morning featured a competitive game against SoCal Express. The team led wire to wire, but the game was a back and forth affair featuring 3 ties. The team made plays necessary to advance to the final four against San Diego United. The game against the United started as a methodical battle finishing in a 2-2 tie at halftime. In the second half, the team battled but ran out of steam as the United went on to victory.
“Our team fought hard and competed at a high level,” explained Coach Panchito Ojeda. “I am incredibly proud of the way in which these young men competed, represented themselves and 101 Lacrosse. Each of them got better this weekend and had a chance to showcase their talent in front of college coaches. I am looking forward to seeing this group back on the field this summer at FLG in 3D.”
Four 101 Elite players were named to the ADRNL Challenge All-Star roster: Ian McKissik (2019), Dylan Guth (2019), Mason DePaola (2018), and Maxwell Pierce (2017).
