Austin Matheny

Austin is originally from San Diego, California, and is currently a senior at Notre Dame. In high school, Austin was an Inside Lacrosse top 150 recruit, competing in the Adrenaline Showcase, New England Top 150, Project 9.9, and California Gold Invitational. He was named an all-star at the Adrenaline Shootout and Gait Cup. Austin played lacrosse during his freshman year at Chapman University in the MCLA, before transferring to Notre Dame. Austin was President of the men’s club lacrosse team at Notre Dame for the 2016-2017 academic year, where the club’s two teams came in first and third place in the Great Lakes Lacrosse League. Austin has coached every age of player, from pre-K to high school varsity, with the Pacific Lacrosse program in San Diego over the last five years, and is very excited to continue coaching with 101 Lacrosse.
At Notre Dame, Austin studies economics while focusing on political economy, inequality, and international energy trends. Previously, he served as a research assistant to the Varieties of Democracy project at the Kellogg Institute at Notre Dame. Austin was also a fellow for the Put A Price On It Campaign, advocating for a national carbon tax. Austin currently serves as the Director of Social Concerns for the universities Student Government, focusing on issues including sustainability, LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, human trafficking, and local poverty. This summer, he is working as a policy analyst for the Bay Area Council in San Francisco.
