When I first got into coaching a coach once told me, “If your team can play 3v2 well, you can play lacrosse well.” I think if you take that literally it might be a little off, but 3v2 represents so many things you are trying to do on both the defensive and offensive halves of the field. Attack the quick extra man, communicate and buy time, and taking proper angles, finding skip lanes, etc. The list goes on. Not to mention, in practice this can be an incredible high rep, high octane drill keeping players engaged!
This is one of our favorite drills at 101 Lacrosse. We find this to be an excellent drill to use early in practice. Get the blood pumping, defense talking, and ball moving. This drill is for all ages, but from a pace standpoint you see a significant increase in the ability to do this at a high tempo in HS and college.
Enjoy the drill!
